Unit 7  Living with disease
          Reading  Born Dying
Hello, everyone. Today I’m very pleased to have an opportunity to talk about some of my teaching ideas. My topic is “Born Dying” taken from  Unit 7 in SEFC(2) It is made up of four parts.
Part I My understanding of this lesson
The analysis of the teaching material:
This topic is a reading passage of Unit7 in SEFC(2). It plays a very important part in the English teaching of this unit.This unit mainly talks about deadly diseases and attitudes towards AIDS,cancers,etc.The reading passage centers on this topic. Through this topic, the students not only get more information about diseases, but also learn how to keep a right and positive attitude towards diseases and people with diseases. In addition, the students can learn some useful language points through the materials provided in the reading, especially a lot of words and phrases, which are very helpful for the students to build up vocabulary about diseases. The Grammar-the Subjunctive Mood is also important. The reading passage gives the students an opportunity to learn grammar by using it. It helps the students learn to talk about things that are not certain to happen as well as imaginary or unreal events and situations.
Teaching aims:
1. Knowledge aims: Learn to understand the main idea of the text; Understand the use of the Subjunctive Mood; Lead the students to master language focus.
2. Ability aims: Develop the students’reading skills; Retell the text in their own words.
3. Emotional aim: Make the Ss learn how to keep a right and positive attitude towards diseases and people with diseases. 
Teaching important points:
a.How to develop the students’reading skills
b.Learn about some knowledge on deadly diseases.
Teaching difficult points:
1. Ask Ss to give their understanding of the sentences and talk about Subjunctive Mood.
2. Discuss deadly diseases and attitudes towards AIDS, cancers etc.
The analysis of the students:
  1. The Ss have known something about the diseases through the Internet and other ways.
  2. They are lack of vocabulary.
3. They don’t often use English to express themselves and communicate with others.
4. Some Ss are not active in the class because they are afraid of making mistakes.
Part II My teaching theories, methods and aids
Teaching theories:
Constructive teaching theory, Task-based teaching theory and Communicative  teaching theory.
Dealing with this reading, I’ll do my best to carry out the three theories: Make the Ss the real masters in class while the teacher himself acts as director;Combine the language structures with the language functions. Let the Ss learn something by doing things.
Teaching methods:
a.Skimming method to find the main idea of each paragraph.
b.Task-based teaching method to finish the teaching assignment.
c.Inquires into the study method
d.Cooperation study method
Teaching aids:
1. a projector
2. multimedia
3. the blackboard
Part III Teaching  Procedures
I have designed the following steps to train their ability of reading ability.
Step 1. Lead-in and preparation for reading
Methods: looking at the pictures and listening to the tape.
Purpose: Arouse the students’ interest in the topic and get them to understand the very situation concerned; Train the Ss’ listening ability and prepare for later exercises.
As we all know, AIDS is killing a lot of adults and children in the world every year.It is considered to be one of the most serious social problems today, let’s have a close look at it today.
A.Show some pictures of AIDS patients(pp.t) .After showing  some pictures of AIDS  patients, I designed two tasks: (have a discussion in pairs)
 Task1: Ask Ss to use some words to describe the Sufferers.( miserable, defenceless, helpless, pitiful….)
Task2:Say something about how to help AIDS .B. Listening(book closed)
 Listen to the tape then answer these following questions.( get general information)
1.What is AIDS?
2.How do people get AIDS?
Step 2. Fast-reading
Method: Read the text individually, using question—and—answer activity.
Purpose: Improve the students’ reading ability.
         Understand the general idea of each paragraph.
A.Read the passage as quickly as they can and answer the following questions on the screen . (train Ss’ skimming ability)
 Tasks:
1. What kind of person is Xiao Hua?
2. How did she get AIDS?
3. Can people contact her?
4. Does she feel discouraged?
B. let Ss get the main idea of each paragraph and match column A with column B.
