to learn some connecting words and sentences.
to learn the brainstorming way.
    to learn to collect useful ideas and sentences by using the brainstorming way
to develop the students’ writing ability.

brainstorming and cooperative-learning,process-oriented writing

Get Ss to become interested in English writing.
    Develop Ss’ sense of group cooperation and teamwork.
Teaching important point:
Develop the students’ writing ability by making a brainstorming.
Teaching difficult point:
Get students to learn to use connecting words or sentences properly to arrange sentences correctly.

brainstorming way; cooperative learning; process-oriented writing

     a multi-media
Teaching procedures:
Step 1 Revision
Check the homework.
Step 2 Lead in
1. A quiz about some useful words and phrases of learning English.

Step 3 Brainstorming : Reasons for learning English
1.       Brainstorm with partners: Why should we learn English ? 
Ask Ss to collect as much information as possible by brainstorming and group discussing,and write down your ideas.

To pass an English exam

To talk to native speakers
To read English books
To listen to English music and movies
To use for business
To write to pen friends
To work in an English-speaking country
To do studies or researches in English
To live in an English-speaking country
To travel around the world
To learn about world culture

Step 4 Connecting words:
Illustration: I think… I believe… I suggest… In my opinion
Addition: Secondly… And then…Besides…In addition…
Contrast: But…however…on the other hand….
Summary: In short…; In a word…; Therefore… ; So…
【设计意图】有助于学生在写作过程中对这些结构进行模仿,从而达到提高学生写作能力的目的。
Step 5 Writing a short passage
1 Drafting an outline for your writing task.
The following is a sample:
Title: Why should we do exercises?
Reasons: to keep fit; to make us strong; to fight illness and disease; to enjoy ourselves;
to build up our skills.
Conclusion: Some exercise a day keeps the doctor away.
Outline:
Title: why should we learn English?
Introduction: state your view
Body: give your supporting reasons ( at least 2)
