5. since conj. 1) 自从  2) 既然 = now that
Great changes have taken place (take place) in China since 1997.

6. work out 1) 锻炼  2）计算出 3）好起来，结果好
The famous actor keeps fit by working out ( work out ) in the gym every day.    
At last, the scientist worked out (work out) the total number of genes in human body.   
At first, we met many problems, but things worked out in the end.
我相信一切都会好起来的 I believe that everything will work out.

7. recover  
1) vt =get /find something again 重新获得

8. contain vt 里面有，容纳, 含有
 This theatre can contain 4000 people. 容纳

 We can’t eat much food that contains too much fat. 含有
注意：contain /include 都有包含的意思。contain可表示被包含者是所含之物的全部或部分； include 着重被包含者只是整体中的一部分。
I have a story-book which contains a lot of interesting stories. And my favorite story The Wolf is Coming is  included. (contain/include)
比较： Everyone laughed, me included. (include) 
Everyone laughed, including me. (include)
9. damage 1) vt 损害,毁坏
 The car was damaged (damage) in the serious accident.
 It’s wrong of you to damage your health（损害健康）by smoking.
 2) n 损害,损失
 Human activities are doing great damage to the earth .
 Smoking causes much damage to one’s health.
 归纳：对…造成损害，破坏damage sth; do damage to; cause damage to                           
10. It isn’t worth it.  be worth + 钱 （价值数量词）/(doing) sth (主动形式表被动) 
这本书值20美元。   This book is worth $20.                                     
这本书不值那个价。  This book is not worth that price.
鲁迅写的书值得一读。The books which are written by Lu Xun are worth reading.
