A Research on Guiding Sentences Writing in Primary School Under the New Curriculum

Abstract: In our English teaching, the problem of what should be taught to students is discussed for a long time,though teaching materials are rich in content. For the author, teachers and students should be clear that the point we learn English is communication. For that matter, the vocabulary and grammar teaching plays an important role in English teaching and learning. So the author makes a research to explore how to guide pupils to write.

1. The purpose of English learning
What’s the aim to learn English in current time? For exam? Or for a certificate? Or to use and communicate? It’s no doubt that the fluency in communication and application of a second language is the fundamental purpose. For us, English is an indispensable tool. It’s well known that Language is a practical skill like driving or swimming. It can benefit our life. English is a universal language. With the rapid development of global economy, English has been used more and more widely in our work. Firstly, we can communicate with foreigners fluently and accurately. Secondly, lots of great works are written in English. So, it’s valuable to master English for the sake of reaching the purpose of better communication and application.

2. The significance of vocabulary and grammar teaching in primary school
There is one point should be noticed that the vocabulary and grammar is the framework of a language. If there is no grammar and enough vocabulary when people exchange ideas, there is no consistency, it cannot constitute a language. In other words, the grammar and vocabulary is a prerequisite for language practice. According to the England linguist Wilkins, "Without grammar, one can not expresses many things, without words, one can not expresses anything", and the language is used to convey our thought through vocabulary and grammar and so on. Therefore, great attention must be paid to the teaching of vocabulary and grammar.
However, although teachers attach much importance to vocabulary teaching, it pays little. The English teaching and learning in Grade 3 is mainly based on cultivating the ability of listening, speaking and reading, students in Grade 4 will really come across the word. Many students learning English at the beginning think that English is fun, and their interest is still relatively high, but gradually the difficulty comes. When the words are required to remember, but some students can't do it, so the gap between students are widen and widen. At last, their interest in learning English is less and less.        English learning is nothing more than to listen more, to say more, to read more, to remember more. Most teachers will use various methods to stimulate students to listen, to speak. But it's impossible for each student to speak in a class, the opportunity for students to speak and for teachers to check is less. And English language, after all, is not our own language, most of the students would not speak English unless they are in English class. And usually what they say are translated into English directly regardless of the rules of grammar. So even if they learn a large number of words, they can't organize them correctly, which leads to poor communication.

3. The core of the new curriculum
  In order to improve the current situation, to help students assert themselves more and enhance their learning ability, the new curriculum points out that our teaching should be student-oriented, teachers are guides in their learning. And in order to improve the learning efficiency, it's a key to reduce students’ burden and improve the quality if the heuristic teaching is applied appropriately. So the instruction of guiding them participate in learning actively and learn with initiative is necessary.
  Because of the amount of content in textbooks is large, students can't absorb all knowledge taught, teachers should integrate the teaching materials and organize the content distinguishing between the major and minor according to actual situation, including acceptance of students and the ties of daily life.
  The new curriculum puts forward clearly that English is a very practical subject, and students should form an ability to communicate with simple daily English initially. So it requests teachers design the teaching and learning activities closing to the actual situation with a creative way to attract and organize their participation. Therefore, teachers should try to create a daily life atmosphere of English teaching.
